The Bergen Academy of
Reform Judaism
WELCOME TO BARJ
Welcome to BARJ
At BARJ, your children will acquire the skills and knowledge they need to take
pride in their own identity as Jews. They will also have the chance to gain
compassion for others and actively take part in “Tikkun Olam” (Repairing the
World).

BARJ is the post Bar/Bat Mitzvah educational program for three temples in
Bergen County -Temple Beth Or in Washington Township, Temple Avodat
Shalom in River Edge,  and Temple Emeth in Teaneck . It is a school where
young Reform Jewish adults can learn and socialize with other Reform Jewish
students.  BARJ focuses on current teen issues using creative techniques and
group learning to connect our students with Jewish ethics, history, and
Torah.  In the classrooms, we concentrate on designing “life lessons”, which
are taught by our fantastic faculty who have many years of experience
teaching a broad range of Jewish subjects.

BARJ meets Wednesday evenings from 7-9 PM at Temple Beth Or in
Washington Township.  BARJ is in the process of planning an exciting social
and academic calendar consisting of special programs, guest speakers, and
lobbying experiences in Washington D.C.

GRADUATION 2010

BARJ 2010-2011

The Bergen Academy of Reform Judaism (BARJ) is undergoing
some exciting changes beginning this fall.  The program for eighth
through twelfth graders went through a visioning process last spring
so that it can meet the educational, spiritual, and social interests of
our teens.  Activities will now not only focus on Jewish texts and
traditions, but will also include more classes concentrating on the
arts and leadership development training.  Also, the rabbis of all
three synagogues will be teaching on a regular basis, further
connecting the teens to their home synagogues.  BARJ meets
Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 at Temple Beth Or in Washington
Township beginning on October 6, 2010.

Graduation is May 18,2011
