Students must attend all classes with a notebook, folder and pen plus any other
supplies required by the teacher.
BARJ meets from 7-9 PM on Wednesday evenings at Temple Beth Or in
Washington Township. The evening schedule will be as follows:
7:00 – 7:50 Period I Core
7:50 – 8:10 Break
8:10 – 9:00 Period II Elective
It is very important that BARJ students arrive a few minutes before the ringing
of the first bell. It is difficult to facilitate classes when students interrupt by
coming to class late.
BARJ will follow the calendar that is part of this website. Families will be
informed if there are any changes to the calendar.
The BARJ office is located at 56 Ridgewood Road, Washington Township, New
Jersey, 07676. The telephone number is (201) 722-0750 and our fax number is
(201) 722-0444. The Administrator, Dr. Vicki Wulwick, can be reached by e-
mail at vickibarj@aol.com. She can also be reached at the BARJ office on
during the week at 201-722-0750. The BARJ office is not open on Fridays.
All financial concerns will be handled by BARJ’s Financial Secretary, Diana
Teitel, via e-mail. Her e-mail address is barjfinsec@aol.com. Voice messages
may also be left for her at the BARJ number.
The Educational Director, Sara Blumstein, can be contacted via e-mail at
sarabarj@aol.com.
During our break, students may enjoy a small snack as they socialize. Please be
advised that BARJ is a PEANUT-FREE environment.
BARJ students must, at all times, behave in a manner appropriate for learning.
BEHAVIOR THAT IS NOT CONDUCIVE TO LEARNING WILL NOT BE
TOLERATED. Students are expected to act as mature young adults. Students
are to be respectful to their teachers, the temple and their peers. It is extremely
important that students understand that BARJ functions within a temple. We are
guests of our host congregation. This area must, at all times, be respected.
Our conduct policy is as follows:
First Incident ..................Student will meet and discuss the situation with the
Educational Director.
Second Incident .............Parent will be contacted
Third Incident ................A mandatory meeting will be held with the student,
parent, Director and, if necessary, the temple rabbi.
Students MUST read and sign the BARJ Code of Conduct in order to begin
attending BARJ classes.
Students may NOT leave BARJ without the permission of their parent and the
Director. Students may not leave the temple during break session.
In order to maintain an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and respectful
to fellow students and faculty, the following outlines BARJ’s dress policy.
Students should dress comfortably, but:
- Low-cut tops and abbreviated tops that expose the midriff area should not be
worn. This includes halter, tube, crop, and tank tops and any other tops that
expose underwear.
- Low-cut pants or pants with holes, either of which expose underwear, should
not be worn.
- Pajama bottoms and slippers should not be worn.
- Shorts and shirts should be worn at a modest length.
- Clothing containing profanity or sexual references
or depicting drugs, alcohol, or tobacco should not be worn.
Students who choose to wear this type of clothing will be asked to contact their
parents and be removed from the program for that evening. This will be
counted as an absence.
Parents are invited to audit classes and to share their observations with the
Director.
Students are welcomed to bring visitors to BARJ. All visitors must sign in with
the Director and receive a visitor’s pass.
All student guests must bring a written letter of permission from their parents.
The letter must indicate permission to participate in classes for that particular
Wednesday. Students must call the BARJ office beforehand to get permission
to bring a visitor.
It is imperative that students make every effort to attend regularly. Parents
should call the school office at (201) 722-0750 to inform us of a student's
absence.
Excessive unexcused student absences will not be tolerated. Make-up
assignments will be assigned by the student's teachers after consultation with
the Educational Director and must be completed within the semester in which
they were assigned. Students who do not adhere to this policy will not be
permitted to enroll in classes for the following semester.
Punctuality at the beginning of each period is imperative to take full advantage of
the learning experience and arriving late often causes a disruption to the class.
Students arriving after 7:15 PM must sign in.
In the event that a student must leave school early, a note signed by the parent
must be brought to the office before classes begin. The student will then get a
note from the Educational Director which he/she should give to the teacher of
the class he/she must leave from early. When the student is picked up, the
parent must see the Director to sign the student out.
Students are not permitted to leave the premises during the hours that BARJ is in
session unless there is a special program off campus. BARJ is not responsible
for any student who leaves the building without permission.
In the event of inclement weather or other emergency resulting in the
cancellation of classes, log onto www.cancellations.com. We will also post
closings on our website page, and there will be a message on our voice mail
and/or an email sent, if possible.
The use of and/or possession of alcoholic beverages, any illegal drug, and/or
tobacco during any BARJ session and/or event, even if the participant is of legal
age, is strictly forbidden. Any student who is caught violating this rule or
committing an act that is in violation of federal, state or local law will be
suspended and/or expelled from BARJ with no refund of tuition. State and/or
federal punishment will also be sought.
No gambling is allowed at any BARJ program, except for fundraisers approved
by the Township of Washington, State of New Jersey and BARJ Board of
Directors.
Vandalism, disturbing the peace, or other inappropriate behavior, as determined
by the Educational Director, will not be tolerated at any BARJ programs.
Punishment, including the payment for any property damage, will be determined
by the Educational Director in consultation with the President of BARJ.
The use of cell phones is strictly prohibited in the temple, during class time, or
at BARJ events. Students, however, may use them during the break. Cell
phones must be used inside the building.
Any rules announced by the Educational Director during the course of the year
shall be observed as though there were written rules, and have the same weight
as those rules included in this code.
